Artist: Armin Hofmann

Armin Hofmann is a brilliant Swiss graphic designer. Hofmann followed Emil Ruder as head of the graphic design department at the Basel School of Design and was instrumental in developing the graphic design style known as the Swiss Style.
His work is recognised for its reliance on the rudimentary elements of graphic form - point, line, and shape - while subtly conveying simplicity, complexity, representation, and abstraction. He is well known for his posters, which emphasised economical use of colour and fonts, in reaction to what Hofmann regarded as the "trivialisation of colour."
Hofmann wrote a book outlining his philosophies and practices. His ‘Graphic Design Manual’ was, and still is, a reference book for all graphic designers.

Hofmann is one of the first recognisable artists i have found that has used a photograph as the background of a piece of linear graphic design work. It has become popular in ‘Indie music scene’ to use this, Bring Me The Horizon is one that uses it quite often. I really like the style but wanted to know where or who it came from. Hofmann’s UCLA Extension piece proves that he is one of artists that used this style.
