He studied law at Budapest University and after serving in the Austro-Hungarian Army and being severely wounded, started to draw and in 1917 to paint.
He was appointed in 1923 to the Bauhaus at Weimar by Walter Gropius, first as head of the metal workshop, then head of the preparatory course; he moved with the Bauhaus to Dessau in 1925 and became much involved with experimental photography, including photograms.
He later delved into various fields, from commercial design to theatre set design, and also made films and worked as a magazine art director. But his greatest legacy was the version of Bauhaus teaching he brought to the United States, where he established the highly influential Institute of Design in Chicago.
Laszlo is my least favourite designer in this project but i can see that some of the previous artists i have looked at may have been influenced by his straight line design and use of transparency.
